Visa Contactlesss
Visa's version of Wave & Pay is called Visa Contactless. Visa Contactless cards have a tiny radio transmitter embedded in the chip which allows them to communicate with a point-of-sale terminal. The cardholder 'waves' their Visa Contactless card a few centimetres from the card-reader to make a payment. The transaction is completed in less than 1 second.
Visa Contactless uses wireless communication technology. In accordance with industry standards and specifications, payment instructions can be exchanged securely between a Contactless chip card and an EMV* card acceptance terminal. Visa Contactless is a secure way to pay. The chip on the card uses the highest level of cryptography to protect the payment. Visa has published global specifications to ensure that Visa Contactless cards can be used internationally.
